About Shape Architecture Bexley
Planning Permission in Conservation Areas
As well as this work creating extensions to listed buildings in London, we have also achieved planning permissions to other challenging projects, such as a double basement in a conservation area or in the green belt, and our Bexley architects can bring over fifteen years of expertise in sustainable design to any project.
Contemporary London Architects in Bexley
Our architecture is contemporary and addresses the issues of light, space, and transparency, as well as exploring the physical and visual connection between internal and external spaces. As London architects in Bexley, Shape Architecture can bring our expertise in private residential projects to all our work. With an extensive portfolio of previous projects ranging from full house refurbishments or basement conversions to contemporary extensions and pod rooms, we can illustrate a wide variety of design issues and how to deal with them.
Roof Lights for Basement Extensions
Shape Architecture London always looks to create modern and open interiors filled with light, exemplifying a good connection between the inside and outside spaces. To this end, we consider and examine the interior and exterior context of every project. Drawing outside light into the interior space is particularly important when converting or excavating a basement under a property, where natural light is key to the enjoyment of a space. To get the light into the basement, our Bexley architects will often use a series of light wells and roof lights across the depth of the floor plan; typically at the front, rear, and sometimes in the middle of the property.
Basements Filled with Light
These light wells either at the rear or in the middle of the property are often combined with a glazed or transparent bridge across them. This not only allows access between parts of the property, but also brings light and a sense of openness into the basement rooms of a property, even at lower level, and can also be found as part of a feature staircase when used within the interior of a project. These staircases are a fine way of creating a full-height light well and drawing light into all storeys of the property from the very top of the building, particularly when they can be used as a focal point and attractive feature for the project.
Planning and Design Experience
This approach to light is typical of Shape Architecture’s work in London, where we have a proven track record working with the planning departments of boroughs across London, and have a great deal of experience gaining planning permissions for challenging developments. Whether our Bexley architects are making alterations to listed buildings, designing a basement excavation, or an extension to go with a full house refurbishment, we can draw on our design background and technical expertise to make your project a success.
On all projects, our Bexley architects based in London use 3D modelling techniques to communicate effectively and clearly with both clients and contractors. Computer models are useful for the design process in many ways, providing an excellent opportunity to produce interesting images through which the client can engage with the project. This in turn is important for our client relationship. Such images can quickly and clearly give an impression of the proposed design that drawings and words alone cannot always convey, and they are a good way of understanding the use of space and sense of light in a scheme, both factors that are important to Shape Architecture’s design philosophy.
Building Extensions and Basement Conversions
These renders, architectural visualisations and computer images also aid the project development by allowing us to create, test, and examine light studies for any new spaces – particularly new constructions such as a building extension or a basement conversion. Additionally, they can be exceptionally useful in unlocking the potential of any project. This is especially true for projects where it can be difficult to visualise a final project in a space that is already occupied with the existing scheme, such as in a piece of interior architecture that completely changes the interior layout of an apartment or house.
Recommended Architects in Bexley
We work hard to communicate effectively and clearly with our clients at all stages of the design process and throughout construction, and this fine attention to detail has resulted not just in the success of our past projects, but also in making sure the majority of our work now comes through client recommendation – a commendation that we are all proud of.
