London Basement Extension
The basement extension at 18 Ellerby Street in Fulham was the first basement project undertaken by Shape Architecture and the spring board for all subsequent projects in Fulham as clients recommended the practice to their friends. We were recommended for this project by structural engineers with whom we had worked on many projects throughout London.
Basement Conversion in Fulham
The design of the new basement adds a wide range of new room types and room sizes to the property. The largest space is a new family room facing onto the garden lightwell and with views of the garden stair. This approach is quite typical of basement extensions in London and the majority of our subsequent basements have followed this layout. At other side of the basement a Media Room is located and this gives onto its own lightwell providing light and air into the room. Further accommodation includes a utility room and a further WC.
Basement Conversion in Fulham: Feature Stair
At the heart of the design is contemporary stair between ground and basement floors. This is incorporated with a glass bridge which forms a link between the front reception room and the kitchen and dining room at the rear. The space works well as it contrasts a narrow entrance with the light and transparency of the stairwell. Feature lighting also adds much to this space. As with a number of other projects the visual and physical link connects spaces very well.
Basement Extension in Fulham and the Garden
The basement has direct access to the garden via a stone clad series of steps. At garden level the steps are bordered by a structural glass balustrade. This provides for an attractive composition of glass, garden wall and horizontal timber slats. In our portfolio of Fulham basement conversions there is a distinct split between those which have a direct connection to the garden as in this instance, those that connect the basement lightwell to a glass bridge over and those that have no direct connection at that level.
Fulham Wrap around Extension & Internal Refurbishment
This is another example of a wrap around extension in Fulham that has been added to develop a large kitchen and dining room. A wide range of rooflights let into the new extensions help to create a light and bright space. This is complimented by large sliding folding doors giving onto the garden.
Fulham Loft Extension
Much work has been undertaken at the upper levels of the project including the formation of a loft extension to provide additional accommodation. The first floor has been extensively remodeled to include a Master Suite. Here the En-Suite bathroom has bee located around a large existing window and is filled with light. Between the Master bedroom and en-suite a walk-in wardrobe is located.
