Grove Avenue, Ealing, London
Shape Architecture obtained planning permission for the redevelopment and extension of this property in Ealing.
The house had been untouched for many years and also included a lower ground floor space enters via the garden and below ground floor level an undeveloped undercroft space.
The site had the benefit of a steeply falling rear garden with long vies towards a golf course beyond.
Given this the brief developed to incorporate a basement space into the house, to simplify and open up the interior and importantly to connect the interior to the gardens and landscape beyond.
In response to the brief a cascade of green roofs was incorporated that helped integrate the building into its green setting.
Located in the green roofs are large format rooflights to flood the interior with natural light. At ground floor another feature of the design is the full width terrace affording excellent views over the green roofs and garden beyond.
