St. Dunstans, Fulham, London

Project Overview

Shape Architecture is nearing completion on a basement and whole house project in St Dunstans Road in Fulham. This basement conversion is now one of fifteen Fulham basements that the practice has worked on over the last few years.

Having visited a number of our other completed basement projects in the borough our Client commissioned us with a brief to design a light bright contemporary house with the basement well integrated into  the property and with the garden too.

Our project at Hurlingham road influenced a number of the Clients thoughts and particularly the use of a glass box that extends into the garden and houses the basement stair.  In this way every time you go between basement and ground floor you do so in an elegant glass structure sat in the garden in all weathers.

This glass box can be seen as soon as one enters the house as the interior at ground floor flows into one large naturally lit space with excellent views of the garden.

At the upper levels the loft has been converted to provide another bedroom and at first floor a master suite has been created.

The basement incorporates a large family room and a sauna plus further bathroom, study space and utility room
