Westbourne Gardens

Shape Architecture are working on this back land development in Hove presently configured as a series of garages and associated land.  Set well back from the public highway, bounded on three sides by gardens and overlooked by many adjacent properties the site presents a number of challenges.  The brief calls for a studio or One Bed dwelling to be created.

Shape Architecture’s response is to create a simple and elegant contemporary house.  Neighbouring properties will now look down upon a green sedum roof rather than the felt roof over the existing garages.  The front elevation is the only possible source of natural light and views out and as such a series of glazed panels bounded by a feature-coloured steel frame form the front façade of the house.  The success of this project will be in its elegant simplicity and the vast improvement of the existing site.
