Grosvenor Square, Westminster, London

Project Overview

Grosvenor Square, Westminster, London

Shape Architecture has completed its refurbishment of a large apartment in Grosvenor Square, Westminster. The project has seen the complete upgrade of a flat largely comprising of a series of small rooms into a light and bright interior with much improved flow between spaces. The larger rooms have been stripped back to form light filled elegant spaces. In the reception rooms the existing parquet floor has been sanded and stained to become a significant and dramatic element. The introduction of mirrored sliding folding doors between the reception rooms provides an elegant way of dividing the spaces and also to reflect light and views about the rooms. A great success has been the replacement of the large single glazed sash windows giving onto Grosvenor Square with new double glazed windows, following a successful planning application. This has ensured a high quality finish and also vastly improved the thermal and acoustic performance of these windows. Similarly planning permission was granted for the replacement of the single glazed Crittall windows to the rear of the property, thereby much improving the level of thermal and acoustic of the bedrooms.

Bathroom Redesign

The bathroom spaces have been remodeled and an en-suite bathroom added to the Master bedroom. Each bathroom is now light and bright with a spacious feel. The use of glass, reflective paint and stone surfaces and effective lighting have all contributed to the quality of the space. As has the specification of elegant shower fittings, taps and cabinet handles.

Throughout the apartment Shape Architecture has designed a series of fixed furniture. These range from vanity units, to book cases and large wardrobes.
Our Client had also requested the inclusion of an air conditioning system throughout the apartment and we were successful in obtaining planning permission for an air conditioning system.
This is an element that will add value to the property.

Apartment Transformation

In looking at the transformation of the apartment it is clear that its essential character remains. Those parts that most impressed prior to the work commencing still do but more so. The spaces that felt cramped and poorly lit have gone, being replaced with an overall sense of light and space. And where it was felt that rooms were poorly connected they now flow extremely well.

The project approach has understood the existing space and transformed it with care and attention to create an elegant and thoroughly modern apartment.
