Ealing Two Storey Extension in Conservation Area
Shape Architecture has just obtained planning permission for a two storey extension in a Conservation Area in Ealing which also replaces the existing garage. The conservation area is the Hanger Hill (Haymills) Estate Conservation Area. A two storey side extension serves to provide valuable additional space that transforms the interior at both ground and first floor levels.
Given the sensitivity around a fairly large extension set in a conservation area, we started the planning process with a Pre-App submission, whereby we ‘tested the water’ with the planning authority and received useful advice prior to submitting the Householder Application.
Design details such as setting the façade of the extension back from the existing façade and likewise the new roof ridge set down from the existing ridge, served to satisfy the concerns that the planning authority had. Alongside the replication of key details and a general description of the existing house and wider area to establish that we fully understood the planning context.
