Brighton Extension
Shape Architecture is presently working on a wraparound extension and loft conversion alongside the remodeling of the interior at ground floor. Located on New Church Road the project is both ambitious and exciting, especially for West Hove. It features a wrap-around extension that creates a variety of dynamic spaces. To the rear, we are proposing an extension with a vaulted section, as well as a partial side infill that allows for a new utility room and mudroom.
The design approach is to retain the character of the existing property while introducing a glazed, open-plan feel that maximises natural light. A key strength of the scheme is the side access, which remains and provides a practical through-route to the garden, making the utility space a functional mudroom. Together with a generous WC and improved under-stair storage, these features offer real everyday usability for family life.
At loft level, we are proposing a modest dormer to facilitate staircase access and free up the loft space footprint allowing the function of a bedroom and ensuite. The volume here is striking and will make a strong architectural statement while providing valuable additional accommodation.
