Clapham Extension and refurbishment
Our extension in Clapham is progressing well. The extension is in the form of a glazed cube and is very much a feature of the design. In addition at lower ground floor a new and elegant stair has been designed and this is enclosed in its own glass cube. The combination of the two glazed structure has been carefully considered. Whereas the original stair did not have any impact the combination of the new stair and glass cube is an elegant solution and more so as views of the glazed extension become visible. In addition the lower ground floor is now filled with light. Elegantly detailed glass creates a sense of a contemporary and elegant interior.
Glass Design
2026 marks Shape Architecture’s twentieth year in practice. Twenty years of work characterised by its use of glass. Such experience means that the very earliest concept models are formed with a sense of the final technical details will be. Equally we have long standing relationships with well established glazing companies such as Max Light. The design process for designing the glass extension starts with a series of 3D images of various design options for discussion with the client. Once the preferred option is decided then we will draw in 2D a series of elevations, plans, sections and details. These will be priced by the contractors in the tender process. Once the preferred contractor is selected the design will then be developed with the glazing company who produce their own shop drawings for comment. They will visit site to measure the opening and also provide a programme for fabrication and installation in order that the contractor can integrate their works into the overall building programme.
