    Brighton Extension and Refurbishment

Shape Architecture has been chosen by Clients in Brighton to remodel and extend their quite individual house in Ship Street.  Set in a very interesting location next to the Brighton Hippodrome and incorporating a vaulted basement, the house has a great deal of potential to further develop and form a contemporary family home.  At present the various spaces are not well integrated and the garden is visually quite separate from the house.  Our brief was to make the most of the various features, improve the flow, add more storage and better connect the house to the garden both visually and physically.

A key part of our design proposals has been the linking of the basement to the ground floor at a point which coincides with a single storey rear extension and so flood the basement with daylight whilst also providing views out and direct access to the garden.  This links with a proposed elegant rear extension which also provides garden access and wide ranging views of the garden from the ground floor.  Further internal re planning is proposed to provide additional storage throughout.

At the loft level there is presently very limited headroom under the pitched roof and a proposed dormer extensions with glazed triangular windows at the end serve to flood the loft with light and transform the space.
