Ealing Extension and Interior Remodelling
Shape Architecture is progressing with an extension and remodelling project in Ealing. Whilst the house is large with many interesting features the layout of rooms is poor and cluttered. The connection between the interior and the garden beyond is almost non-existent. There is so much potential to create an interesting light filled contemporary home and it is our portfolio of such transformations that led our client to appoint us.
Measured Survey
We have carried out the building survey. Shape Architecture always carries out its own surveys as this enables us to develop a thorough understanding of the property quickly and efficiently. We have an IMapper digital survey station and this is the basis of accurate surveys. The Layer Gardens survey was complex, particularly at the upper floors.
Design Proposals
Having issued the Measured Survey brochure to our clients we then move onto the design proposals. Here we prepare a number of design options to our clients brief, typically 4 or 5 options. Each option is described in 2D, 3D images and freehand drawing to ensure clarity in communicating the designs. We will describe the thinking behind each design, discussing the sequence of views for example. We will be considering the technical and cost issues at this early stage too. The proposals brochure will then be issued to our clients. Once they have reviewed the designs then our Director will visit and discuss the design options. This is a very productive meeting. Out of which a preferred design will be worked up and issued again in 2D and 3D.
We will then produce the planning drawings set, accompanied by a supporting design statement and submit the planning application. Always acting as our clients agent.
If you are interested in discussing a transformation of your home with Shape Architecture we would be very happy to do so. 2026 marks our twentieth year in practice as a chartered RIBA architects practice.
