    Garden Room Architects

Shape Architecture is progressing a transformation of an interesting existing two storey garden structure in Hampstead.  The structure has a number of issues in terms of a poor layout throughout and compromised headroom at the upper level.  In addition there is insufficient natural light coming  into the space.  The form of the structure is complex and we have used a 3D computer model extensively to examine design solutions and communicate with our clients.

The main proposal is the addition of an elegant copper clad dormer to the front monopitch roof.  This will ensure that a greater part of the upper floor has usable headroom.   The creation of a lowered section of terrace that runs alongside a part of the existing façade allows deeper windows to be formed and more natural light to enter the rooms.   Steps and a short bridge cross this lowered section to the entrance which gives onto a relocated stair.  A route through the garden and into the garden room adds a coherency and far improved flow to the design.

The property is in a Conservation Area and as such we are submitting a Pre-App application to test several designs with the planning  authority, whereby we will receive advice from the allotted case officer and  heritage officer prior to submitting the full application.

    London Garden Rooms

Shape Architecture had a diverse portfolio of bespoke garden rooms and this project sits well in our portfolio.  It is not the only two storey garden room we have worked on having recently gained planning permission for a two storey garden room in Hammersmith with an enclosed glazed link back to the house.
