    Green Roofs Case Study 01

Our first green roof case study is a brown roof. The brown roof is a rubble roof to our EcoShed 02 for the Hammersmith Community Garden Association our Ecoshed 01 for this charity having had a green sedum roof. As the brief was to create a demonstrably sustainable building in a park in Hammersmith we decided to use all the excavated material which was largely rubble from bombed out houses in the war in some form. A key motivation was that we were working with a carbon company who encouraged as few lorry journeys to and from site as possible. The decision was therefore taken to place the rubble on the roof and create an ecological brown roof. With a modern roof light set within it the view down onto EcoShed 02 from the surrounding houses is a striking one.
