Lewisham Architects

Shape Architecture has gained planning permission for a wrap around extension in Erlanger Road in Lewisham.  Located in the Telegraph Hill Conservation Area, the extension, alongside internal remodelling serves to transform the ground floor of this property.  With a green sedum roof punctuated with rooflights and the creation of a courtyard space the result is a contemporary and light filled home with much improved circulation and connection with the garden.

Summary

Wraparound extension in Lewisham

The success of the project is the quality of the additional space that this wraparound extension provides.  In not fully enclosing the side return courtyard space is created.  A green sedum roof with a number of roof lights  characterises the project.

Guide to  Extensions in  Lewisham

When designing a wraparound extension a number of design decisions and opportunities present themselves.  The extent of the wraparound as it relate to the existing building is important.  There is the opportunity of fully filling in the side return for example or else leaving a small lightwell or a larger space as with this project where a courtyard can be created with a series of doors giving onto it.
