Shape Architecture in the Community 2025

As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting young people interested in architecture, we were once again pleased to welcome students from local schools into our Brighton studio for work experience placements.

Each student spent a week with us, gaining insight into the role of an architect — from concept design through to digital modelling. We’re always impressed by the creativity, focus and enthusiasm they bring to the studio, and 2025 was no exception.

This year’s design brief asked students to consider a simple but locally inspired challenge:
Our office is in a lovely spot beside Shoreham Harbour, but if we want to sit on the beach at lunchtime, we need to walk around the basin to reach the Lagoon. So why not design a pedestrian bridge that allows a direct route across the water?

From site selection and early sketches to 3D models and presentation visuals, each student developed their own response to the brief — exploring materials, structure, and how a bridge can shape and improve a place. By the end of the week, each had produced impressive drawings and digital models, showcasing their creative thinking and problem-solving skills.

We thoroughly enjoyed having them with us, and we are proud of the work they produced. We look forward to welcoming the next group of students in 2026!
