    Westminster Planning Approvals

Over the last few weeks Shape Architecture has been granted three new planning permissions for projects in Westminster. Each planning application was approved at the first submission and was led and co-ordinated by ourselves. The applications are described below and continue to demonstrate the breadth of our work within the borough, both in terms of scale and building type.

The first planning approval is for an extension to a second floor flat. There is presently a balcony to the rear of the property and our clients wished to replace the balcony with an enclosed structure into which they hoped to extend their kitchen.

The project was sensitive as there are very many windows to other flats surrounding the site with many flats in close proximity to each other. We were nonetheless able to put a case to the planners which gained their support and resulted in the granting of planning permission and the flat now benefits from the addition of valuable floor space.

Our second and third planning permissions are to a Mews property in Eaton Mews.  Here we gained planning permission to turn an existing garage into habitable accommodation and added air conditioning.  This has served to transform the ground floor of the Mews property.  We have worked on many of  these types of project across London, having also just received planning approval for the same type of scheme in Kensington and Chelsea at Petersham Place.  A key part of the process is the undertaking of a traffic study to support the loss of a car parking space and this was successfully argued.
