Courtyard Extension in Brighton

A recent project into the practice. The enclosure of a courtyard to create more habitable internal space. We have surveyed the property and designed a number of options for discussion with the client. The key consideration is the form of the roof and the integration of rooflights within it. Our designs explore a range of options from a totally glass roof to a solid roof with a large rooflight as a central feature. We also explore the retention of an amount of outdoor space and the advantages this will offer in terms of aspect and natural ventilation. It is our experience in designing with glass that led the client to select Shape Architecture and we look forward to the further development of this project in 2026.
