This project seeks to simplify and enlarge an existing lower ground floor level and also to extend the rear of the ground floor, to make a more usable space.
The challenge is that the two storey side return extension is a sensitive proposal, given that the Client’s building is stepped up from its neighbours and so the impact of the extension on the neighbouring property has to be carefully considered. Shape Architecture gained planning permission at our first attempt. The design adds valuable space to existing rooms, floods the interior with light, and connects these spaces to the garden beyond.
