Westminster Architects
Our portfolio of projects in Westminster is varied and includes smaller projects such as at Montagu Square. Our Client’s brief comprised of a range of smaller projects to the property both inside and outside. A key part of which was the extension of an existing terrace and the design of new balustrading that was both safe and added a point of interest to the garden space. Our approach was to design a number of alternatives as a kit of parts, and both explore and communicate the project using 3D computer images. The images below show the ideas both in context and as the series forming the assembly.
Summary
Re working and extension of existing terrace.
The success of this project is in the creative design proposals at a modest scale but nonetheless serving to transform the existing terrace. For our practice we also enjoy the contrast between this project and another of our roof terrace projects in Westminster at the Grade 2 listed Florin Court. Vastly different in scale but each serving to transform our clients access and enjoyment of outside space.
Guide to Westminster Terraces
Roof terraces can be planning sensitive in respect of potential overlooking and any sense of disruption to neighbouring properties. Issues such as the treatment of balustrading are also relevant. We have been successful in gaining planning permission for a wide range of roof terrace projects and this is based on an understanding of these issues and how to demonstrate compliance to the planning authority.
