The basement is connected to the existing building by a linear stair flight that aligns with the ground floor side infill which formed another part of the project.
Shape Architecture has just obtained planning permission for a basement in Barnes set below the rear Garden and part under the rear of the house. Having previously gained permission for another below garden basement in Barnes in Nassau Road this project adds to our portfolio of basement projects in Barnes.
A key feature of this basement is the lightwell around which all the accommodation is set. This ensures when the glazed doors onto the lightwell are open that fresh air circulates around the basement and at all times the heart of the basement is well lit with natural light. A similar approach had been followed at our Nassau Road project. In addition a number of structural glass Rooflights help ensure a high level of natural light is experienced in all rooms.
