Florin Court

Community Project | Listed Building Roof Terrace

Roof Gaden in the City of London

The development of the rooftop to Florin Court is a very interesting project.

Florin Court is a Grade 2 listed Art Deco residential building on the eastern side of Charterhouse Square in Smithfield.

Our Client at Florin Court writes:

Shape did a wonderful job designing the private roof garden of Florin Court in Charterhouse Square. We now have an amenity which is much enjoyed by the residents of the 120 flats who can enjoy beautiful surroundings and sensational views across London. Shape worked well within a tight budget and interacted effectively with both ourselves as the client as well as our surveyors.

Creating a beautiful garden from an unused space

The brief was to create a series of garden spaces on what was a much underused rooftop. It enjoyed wonderful views across London but was also littered with various services and plant facilities. Our proposal sees the creation of a herb garden, yoga space, quiet seating and various other smaller spaces.

The rooftop therefore becomes and interesting and diverse space for not just sitting but doing an interacting. Given the height of the roof the greater part of the design has been carried out in timber for ease of use on the site. Various planters were designed that would sit on and over clad the service runs.
