Kensington Planning Permission
Shape Architecture has gained planning permission for another project in Kensington. Here it is for the creation of a roof terrace to an apartment. The addition of external space where there is none serves to transform this property and our clients are very pleased. The planning application was approved at our first submission following a positive Pre-App process with the planning department.

Shape Architecture has designed very many roof terraces in London to all types of properties and of all sizes across numerous London boroughs. Such breadth of experience over the twenty years we have been in practice is of benefit to all our clients. We have a clear understanding of the planning and also technical issues that are relevant to the design and construction of a roof terrace project. Given this we also have long established relationships with Structural Engineers and Contractors all of whom are experienced in roof terrace projects. The key design issues relate to overlooking and the possible disturbance caused to neighbours. Of importance also is the visual impact of the roof terrace and importantly the treatment of the enclosure to the terrace in terms of design, material and extent. An interesting design issue is also the method of access to the roof terrace. We have used a wide variety of designs ranging from glass cubes where one side slides over the other to gain access to large and elegant low profile rooflights that open automatically. All serve to flood the interior with light. This is particularly the case with our roof terrace at our mews project in Adam and Eve Mews in Kensington.
