About Shape Architecture London

About Shape Architecture

Shape Architecture is a Chartered RIBA practice working throughout London, Brighton and the South-East.

The practice has over 20 years of experience of sustainable architecture through the work of its Director Jason Wren.

We actively seek to work across the Residential, School and Community Sectors on projects of all types and sizes.  It is the creative and technical cross fertilisation that underpins the work of Shape Architecture.

We are a client focused practice and tailor our services to suit our clients requirements.  There is no ‘house style’, but rather a clear conscious effort to respond to the particular requirements of each brief, the budget and site constraints.

Working With Shape Architecture

On contacting our practice a Director will visit you at your property to discuss your project and answer any questions you may have.  There is no charge for this visit.  We will then write to you setting out our services and fees proposal.  Our fee is a Fixed Lump Sum plus vat.  We will divide our fee in our letter over the stages of the project and you can commission us for as little or as much as you wish.

Private Residential Projects

Shape Architecture undertake private residential projects of all types and sizes from extensions to the low energy refurb of a country house and all in between.  We focus on creating light filled contemporary interiors and the integration of inside and outside spaces.  Within our portfolio we have developed a particular expertise in the areas of basement projects, sustainable design and works to listed buildings.

Listed Buildings

Shape Architecture has obtained many planning approvals for contemporary extensions and refurbishment of Grade 2 listed buildings.  These include a large glass walked and green roofed extension to a prominent Grade 2 listed house in Bray, Berkshire or Contemporary Orangery linked to below garden basement to a Grade 2 listed house near Windsor Castle by a prominent Victorian architect.

Shape Architecture have been involved in our residential basement conversion project from inception right through to the final stages. We have been very impressed by their continual professionalism and dedication to the project. They have been supportive to us, as clients, throughout the project and have always been responsive to what was needed at the different stages. The level of service received has been very personal and we have felt that we were a priority throughout. We would thoroughly recommend Shape Architecture to others.

Sustainable Upgrade

Here our experience is rich and diverse ranging from the redevelopment of a large house in Hastings with Green Roofs and a focus on upcycling and re-using materials to the sustainable upgrade of a country manor near St Albans that has an extensive ground source heat pump installation in its grounds linked to underfloor heating making the most of ‘free energy’

Community Projects

Our community projects incorporate sustainable and innovative measures.  Our Eco Shed 2 in a London park features a rubble roof that re-used bricks dug up when forming the foundations.  As the Carbon Footprint of the building was being measured it was made off site and joisted over the tree lined edge of the park then slid to its foundations on railway lines.  An enjoyable day for all involved in the project.

Sustainable Architecture

It is 20 years of experience in designing and building sustainable architecture if all types and sizes that helps set Shape Architecture apart allied to a collaborative and creative approach to design and problem solving.

School Projects

Shape Architecture through the work of its Director and its own portfolio has designed a range of sustainable and creative school buildings.  Our school building at Anthony Roper school took the image of a Dragonfly given its trivet setting as a basis for the building with classrooms under its wings, frameless glass windows as its eyes and providing views onto the river and a grass roofed spine as its body over all the supporting accommodation.

Computer Graphics

We always use 3D computer graphics to explore and crucially explain a design as it evolves.  Our Director was at the forefront of adopting advanced computer graphics in practice with an Msc in Computer Visualisation gained over twenty years ago and has continued to ensure this approach to design is fully integrated into our work.  At the same time we draw and sketch and you will see from our portfolio many projects with colourful free hand drawings describing the essence of the design

We feel at Shape Architecture that we have a lot we can offer to your project.  Please feel free to contact us to discuss your plans.
