Basement conversion
Hammersmith
Private Residential | Basement Extension

Working as architects in Hammersmith and Fulham, Shape Architecture have completed over 16 basement projects in the borough.
Here we have added a basement under the full footprint of the house with front and rear lightwells. The basement corridor, which can often be a darker space, is filled with light and as one descends, the whole of the basement extension opens up. At ground floor, the kitchen and dining areas were re-worked. The result is an elegant and contemporary series of well integrated spaces that fulfil the aspirations of the brief.
Client Testimonial:
Couldn’t have got our project done without Shape. Jason provided sound advice, worked efficiently and to agreed timelines, and ultimately designed us a new space in our house which we absolutely love!
Not just a basement conversion, but a reworked kitchen and garden too.
The width of the corridor is some 1.5 metres, and this helps, as does the detailing of the crittall screen giving onto the family room. This is then echoed in the railings forming the stair balustrade. At ground floor level a re-worked kitchen is formed alongside an improved garden space. An etched glass panel sits over the garden basement lightwell.

Summary
Basement Extension in Fulham with kitchen redesign at ground floor
The success of this basement project is in the spacious and light filled basement that is elegantly detailed and features glazed screens and doors in numerous locations. Again the interconnecting stair is simple and follows the existing flights. The detailed design, materials and colour create an impactful stair.
Examples of Fulham Basement Extensions and Whole House Re-modelling
The use of glazing coupled with the creation of connected spaces with an effective flow between them, is a sound basis for a successful basement project. Our portfolio of basement projects always demonstrate this and explore a variety of ways in which these approaches can be explored.
