Nassau Road, Barnes
Shape Architecture’s basement extension in Nassau Road Barnes is, like our project in Suffolk Road also in Barnes, being largely set below the garden. As a practice we have worked on over 30 basements throughout London and a number have been below gardens including our basement in Windsor to a prominent Grade II listed building. We understand the planning issues and have a deep understanding of the design and technical issues associated with basement design below gardens.
The success of this basement project is the way in which natural light is brought into all parts of the basement plan. The design process very much focussed around the use of natural light and the use of 3D models helped inform the design decisions and ensure a clear dialogue between ourselves and our Client. The use of a lightwell is complemented by a series of structural glass panels let into the landscape to ensure all interior spaces benefit from natural light.
Summary
Below Garden Basement Extension in Barnes
The success of this basement extension is in the extent and quality of space added to the property. A central lightwell brings light and natural ventilation into the heart of the basement. Glazed screens ensure light, views and transparency characterise this project.
Guide to Below Garden Basements
Below garden basements should be light and spacious and take the opportunities that such a location offers. The connecting stair can provide interest and drama. Rooflights and lightwells are equally important allied to glass screens to help engender a sense of openness and bounce light around.
