Extensions and Basement Conversion in London

Such an approach is typical of Shape Architecture’s approach to contemporary building extensions and interior architecture across London, where we have a great deal of experience completing residential projects of all types and scales. Whether it is making alterations to listed buildings, or designing a double storey basement excavation and conversion to go with a full scale house refurbishment and house extension, Shape Architecture London has the design experience and technical expertise to draw upon and make your project a success. We have a great deal of experience working with planning departments in boroughs across London, and have a track record of gaining planning permissions for challenging developments.

Loft Conversions

Shape Architecture have designed and built many Loft Conversions throughout London and understand how to form these projects effectively and efficiently as your architect. These projects can be a great way to add space to the top of your property, and through a combination or selection of dormer extensions, mansard conversions, and hip-to-gable extensions a significant amount of living space can be created, perfect for a master bedroom and an en suite bathroom. Juliette balconies are also a great way to add natural light to a loft conversion, as well as creating a striking feature.

Basements in Chiswick

Shape Architecture has experience building basements across London in many different types of locations ranging from Conservation Areas to Mews and Cul-de-Sacs, and we have obtained planning permission for both single and double basement extensions. Given the technical complexity of a basement conversion it is important to engage consultants with a proven expertise, and we work closely with all consultants to ensure the success of our architecture. Chiswick basements offer many possibilities for your property, from the addition of utility and storage space to the creation of a new master bedroom or separate self-contained living arrangements.

Rooms Filled with Light

The fixtures and fittings of the kitchen extension are to a high standard, and many of the original brick elevations that were the original property’s external walls were left as plain brick, made interior by the addition of the extension, they now have sockets and switches simply installed straight into them. This, when combined with the large amounts of natural light that flood the construction from the roof light, add a clean contemporary effect to the property. This is backed up with features such as the blackboard paint wall, on which the clients’ family can write message

What is a Pod Room Extension?

Pod Room extensions prove a popular choice for those looking to develop a loft-space into a new room for their dwelling. A pod room extension is often found on Victorian terraced properties; situated on the top of a back addition and typically extending half of its depth. A new  timber-frame structure, accessible often from a stair landing between the first floor and loft level can be utilised as an additional bedroom, study or bathroom. This development is undertaken either as part of a larger project such as a full house refurbishment, basement project or as a smaller projects in its own right. When used in conjunction with a loft extension these pod rooms in Chiswick can add a significant amount of space, either for walk-in wardrobes or en suite bathrooms. Rooflights and dormer windows bring light into the space, and access can be provided into the low-level storage under the eaves. Shape Architecture have undertaken a large amount of these developments and are happy to assist in your project.

Kitchen Extensions in West London

Our London architects in Chiswick completed a side and rear extension on a semi-detached house on Netheravon Road, Chiswick. Like many other contemporary house extensions in West London that we have undertaken, the focus of this project was to extend the kitchen out into the garden, with the side extension filling the whole plot of the property, leaving a light well between the existing full width part of the building and the new extension. This light well would draw light and give a sense of openness and space into the existing property, allowing us to extend the kitchen at the rear without compromising the quality of light elsewhere in the property. Should the clients wish to add a basement conversion later on, this light well will be useful in drawing light down into the middle of the basement extension

Architectural Images and Light Studies

Our Chiswick architects use 3D modelling techniques on all projects to communicate effectively and efficiently with clients. Computer models of projects are useful for the design process in many ways. They provide an excellent opportunity to produce interesting images through which the client can engage with the project. Such images can quickly and clearly give an impression of the final project that drawings and words alone cannot convey, and they are a good way of understanding the use of space, sense of light, and unlocking the potential of any project. Renders, architectural visualisations, and computer images also aid the project development by allowing us to create, test, and examine light studies for any new spaces, particularly basement extensions.

Our professional fees are competitive, offered as a fixed lump sum, and are clearly broken down into each stage of the project. Our fees are fixed and will not vary unless the scope of the project changes markedly. In our appointment letter we will confirm the breakdown of the fees in respect of each key stage, from survey and planning to technical information, tender creation, and on-site work. We always tailor our service to meet our clients requirements.

Through the addition of side and rear extensions, the ‘wrap around extension’ will dramatically change any existing kitchen adding space, light and an improved connection with the garden beyond. The resulting space will allow for a larger run of kitchen units with the incorporation of a kitchen island. Dining space and sitting areas can also be added.

Recommended Architects in London

The vast majority of Shape Architecture’s work comes through client recommendation. Our architects in Chiswick work hard to communicate clearly and effectively with our clients at all stages of the project, and this attention to detail is a major contributing factor to the success of our past projects.

We are always happy to meet with a client for an initial free consultation.
