Ellerby Street 02
Views onto Rear Garden

This second basement project in Ellerby Street is the neighbouring property to our first and our appointment was on the basis of client recommendation.

The pattern of development follows the same brief.

Our Client at Ellerby Street writes:

We have enjoyed working with Shape Architecture; they have provided us with thoughtful and practical advice through the design and planning process, guiding us expertly through the technical minefields of planning and building regulations. Shape Architecture have been responsive, and available when required and worked well with other advisors.

Lower ground floor redesign

A feature of the project is the basement stair linking kitchen to basement which was set below a large format rooflight to flood the heart of the basement with natural light and provide for natural ventilation. Around this the composition was further developed to allow the study room at the front of the property to have views across the stair void towards the garden.

Creating space and light

The stair itself is an elegant structure designed with the site joiner. The stair leading from the rear lightwell up into the garden works equally well with patterned glass platform forming a lid to part of the lightwell.

Summary

Basement Extension in Fulham with Rear and Upper Level Extensions

The success of this basement project is in it its use of glass.  Both inside and outside.  Externally the rear lightwell exemplifies this approach with a mix of glazed stair and glazed bridge helping to merge the inside with the outside.

Examples of Fulham Basement Extensions and Whole House Re-modelling

Our portfolio of basement projects is united through its use of glass in many ways.  From the outset we will look at the opportunities to bring natural light into the house and forming a sequence of glimpses and views between spaces.  All adding interest and serving to create a contemporary home.
